  1. INSTALLAION
  2.   REGISTERED VERSION
  3.   If you are installing the registered version of this program, simply
  4.   insert the disc you received into your external drive and run the
  5.   setup program discribed below.  The disc contains all the necessary
  6.   files to run WinFin.
  7.  
  8.   BBS DOWNLOAD
  9.   If you downloaded the program from a BBS, you must unzip the files into
  10.   a temporary directory on your hard disc, i.e., "C:\temp".  The total
  11.   size of the unzipped files is greater than 1.44Meg and will not fit on
  12.   a single floopy.  See "SETUP PROGRAM" below for instructions to install
  13.   the program.  After installation, you can delete the unzipped files in
  14.   the temporary diectory. Note:  In order to conserve space on the BBS
  15.   and minimize your download time, the file VBRUN300.DLL may not be
  16.   included in you download.  You probably already have this file in your
  17.   \windows\system directory.  If not, it is readily available on most
  18.   BBS's.  Search for VBRUN3.Zip, etc.

  20.   CD-ROM VENDORS
  21.   The files are already unzipped, uncompressed and ready to run.  Simply
  22.   execute WINFIN.EXE or use the menu interface provided with the CD-ROM.
  23.   See "SETUP PROGRAM" below for instructions to install the program.

  25.   DISC VENDORS
  26.   Disc vendors frequently provide their own installation program to
  27.   transfer the files from the disc to your hard drive.  If not, look
  28.   for the file setup.exe and follow the instructions below for running
  29.   the setup  program.

  31.   SETUP PROGRAM
  32.   The setup program, setup.exe will copy runtime and program files to the
  33.   proper directories on your hard disc.  It will also create a Windows
  34.   Program Group with icons to run the program and bring up the
  35.   instruction manual for easy printing.
  36.  
  37.   From program manager, select 'File' and then 'Run'.  Type in the drive
  38.   and path that hold the program files to be installed, followed by the
  39.   setup program SETUP.EXE.  Thus from the external drive, you would use:
  40.  
  41.      A:SETUP.EXE
  42.  
  43.   or if the program files were stored in a directory called "temp" on
  44.   your C drive:
  45.  
  46.      C:\Temp\SETUP.EXE
  47.  
  48.   you may run the setup.exe from File Manager, by double clicking
  49.   on SETUP.EXE in your A drive.
  50.  
  51.   You will be asked to enter a directory for the program files.  If it
  52.   does not exist, it will be created.  The program files will be copied
  53.   to this directory and the other files copied to you WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  54.   directory.  A program manager group for WinFin is created.  Double
  55.   click on the "Instructions" to bring up this file and print it out.
  56.   No changes to your Config.Sys, Autoexec.Bat or INI files are made.
  57.  
  58.   PLEASE take the time to printout, or at least read, the WINFIN.WRI
  59.   file.  These are the instructions for the program.

  61.   MANUAL INSTALLATION
  62.   1.  Copy the following files to your \windows\system directory:
  63.  
  64.     cmdialog.vbx    commdlg.dll    graph.vbx    grid3.vbx
  65.     inicon3.vbx    msafinx.dll    threed3.vbx    vbrun300.dll
  66.  
  67.   2.  Create a directory to hold your WinFin program files,
  68.     i.e. c:\winfin, and copy the following files to that
  69.     directory:
  70.  
  71.     gsw.exe        gswdll.dll    winfin.exe    winfin.wri
  72.  
  73.   3.  Create a Program Group in Program Manager and add a program item
  74.     for winfin.exe (Program) and winfin.wri (Manual).  Be sure to
  75.     make your directory that holds these files the default directory
  76.     for these program items.

  78. PROBLEMS
  79.   PCTOOLS FOR WINDOWS-You may have a problem using setup.exe if PCTools
  80.   For Windows shell is installed.  If so, go into your
  81.   \WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI file, and under the the [Boot]  section, you
  82.   should find a line similar  to "shell=c:\cps\wndt.exe", without the
  83.   quotation marks.  If so, simply place a ";" (without the quotation
  84.   marks) as the first character in the line.  Then add the line
  85.   "shell=progman.exe".  Save the file, quit windows then restart
  86.   windows.  Then run a:setup.exe.  After installation,
  87.   go back to the system.ini.  Remove the ";" and delete the line you
  88.   added.  Save the file and Restart windows.

  90.   It is best to close ALL programs except Program Manager when running
  91.   the setup program.
  92.  
  93.   This setup program copies several files to your \windows\system
  94.   directory.  If you experience a problem during installation or
  95.   trying to run WinFin, it is most likely due to an older version of
  96.   one of these files elsewhere on your hard disk.  Most likely in your
  97.   \windows directory.  Thus when WinFin loads it looks for these files
  98.   and uses the first one of the name it needs.  If this is an older
  99.  version, you will get an error message.
  100.  
  101.   For example, after a successful installation and upon running WinFin,
  102.   you may get an error message saying you are using an old version of
  103.   CMDIALOG.VBX.  The reason is that when WINFIN.EXE loads, it looks for
  104.   CMDIALOG.VBX.  If you have an old version in your \windows directory
  105.   and a new version in your  \windows\system directory, the program
  106.   will use the first one it comes across in your path.  The cure for
  107.   this problem is to do a file search for the file named as causing
  108.   the problem.  You may be surprised to find the same file name in 2
  109.   or 3 different locations.  The only one you want is the the most
  110.   current one which will be in your \windows\system directory.  Rename
  111.   the other copies to CMDIALOG.OLD.  When you do this you may get
  112.   another error notice that the file is in use and cannot be renamed
  113.   or deleted.  If this happens, simply exit windows and you may even
  114.   have to reboot.  You may have to rename or delete the file from DOS.
  115.   Remember, you want the files in \windows\system, so these should not
  116.   be deleted or renamed.
